What is Alprazolam?

Alprazolam is a fast-acting benzodiazepine commonly prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders. It works by enhancing the effect of GABA, a calming neurotransmitter in the brain, resulting in sedation, reduced anxiety, and muscle relaxation. It is typically used for short-term relief of acute anxiety symptoms due to its potential for dependence and withdrawal.

Uses of Alprazolam :-

  • Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
  • Panic attacks
  • Short-term management of insomnia (off-label)

Common Side Effects :-

  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Memory issues

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Risk of dependence with prolonged use.
  • Avoid alcohol and operating machinery.
  • Gradual tapering is essential to avoid withdrawal.
