What is Amikacin sulphate?

Amikacin is a powerful aminoglycoside antibiotic used for life-threatening bacterial infections, especially when other antibiotics fail. It works by disrupting bacterial protein synthesis. It is administered parenterally and is effective even against resistant bacteria.

Uses of Amikacin sulphate :-

  • Bloodstream infections
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Abdominal infections
  • Drug-resistant tuberculosis

Common Side Effects :-

  • Nephrotoxicity
  • Ototoxicity (hearing loss)
  • Headache
  • Nausea

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Requires close monitoring of kidney function.
  • Use caution in elderly and newborns.
  • Not for long-term use without specialist supervision.
