What is Ampicillin?

Ampicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic belonging to the penicillin group and is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria. It works by stopping the formation of bacterial cell walls. Ampicillin is often used in more severe infections and is available in both oral and injectable forms, making it versatile in clinical treatment.

  • Gastrointestinal infections

Common Side Effects :-

  • Diarrhea
  • Rash

  • Allergic reactions

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Not suitable for those allergic to penicillins.
  • Long-term use may result in secondary infections.
  • Should be used cautiously in renal impairment.
