What is Atenolol?

Atenolol is a beta-blocker that selectively blocks beta-1 receptors in the heart, leading to decreased heart rate and blood pressure. It is primarily used to treat hypertension, angina, and certain types of arrhythmias. By reducing the workload on the heart, atenolol also lowers the risk of heart attacks and improves survival after one.

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Do not stop suddenly; may worsen heart problems.
  • Use cautiously in asthma or COPD.
  • Monitor blood sugar in diabetics - can mask low blood sugar symptoms.
