What is Atorvastatin Calcium?

Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It works by blocking an enzyme needed for the production of cholesterol in the liver. This reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications, especially in patients with risk factors like diabetes, obesity, or hypertension.

  • May cause muscle breakdown in rare cases.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
