What is Cefpodoxime?

Cefpodoxime is a third-generation oral cephalosporin with broad-spectrum activity, especially effective against respiratory pathogens. It works by preventing bacterial cell wall synthesis and is often used as a step-down therapy after injectable antibiotics. Due to its stability and good absorption, it is preferred in treating upper and lower respiratory tract infections.

Uses of Cefpodoxime :-

  • Sinusitis
  • Bronchitis and pneumonia
  • Skin infections
  • Urinary tract infections

Common Side Effects :-

  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Not suitable for patients with cephalosporin allergy.
  • Adjust dosage in renal impairment.
  • Prolonged use may lead to fungal or secondary infections.
