What is Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide?

Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a commonly used cough suppressant that acts on the brain's cough center to reduce the urge to cough. It is a non-opioid derivative of morphine but lacks addictive properties when used correctly. Often found in over-the-counter cold and flu medications, it provides symptomatic relief from dry, irritating, or non-productive coughs without causing significant drowsiness in most individuals.

Uses of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide :-

  • Relief of dry or unproductive cough
  • Temporary cough relief due to colds or throat irritation

  • Stomach upset

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Avoid use with MAO inhibitors or antidepressants.
  • Not suitable for persistent coughs due to smoking or asthma.
  • High doses may cause CNS effects-do not exceed recommended dosage.
