What is Diphenatol?

Diphenatol is an antidiarrheal and antispasmodic formulation typically containing diphenoxylate and atropine. Diphenoxylate works by slowing intestinal movement, while atropine is added in small amounts to discourage misuse due to its unpleasant side effects at high doses. It is used to manage moderate to severe non-infectious diarrhea and is considered more potent than loperamide in some cases.

Uses of Diphenatol :-

  • Control of non-specific acute and chronic diarrhea
  • Adjunct in gastrointestinal disorders causing loose stools

Common Side Effects :-

  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal discomfort

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • May cause drowsiness - avoid driving or operating machinery.
  • Not for use in infectious diarrhea (e.g., C. difficile).
  • Caution in patients with liver disease or glaucoma.
