What is Doxylamine Succinate?

Doxylamine is a first-generation antihistamine often used as a short-term sleep aid due to its strong sedative effects. It also treats allergies and nausea in pregnancy (as part of combination therapy). It acts by inhibiting central and peripheral histamine H1 receptors.

Uses of Doxylamine Succinate :-

  • Insomnia
  • Allergies
  • Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (with pyridoxine)

Common Side Effects :-

  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion (especially in elderly)

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Avoid with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
  • Not advised for long-term use.
  • May cause paradoxical excitation in children.
