What is Ezetimibe?

Ezetimibe is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor that works by blocking the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine, leading to lower total and LDL cholesterol levels in the blood. Often used in combination with statins, it helps improve lipid control in patients who cannot achieve targets with statins alone or who are statin-intolerant.

Uses of Ezetimibe :-

  • High cholesterol
  • Familial hypercholesterolemia
  • Combined therapy with statins

Common Side Effects :-

  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Joint pain
  • Upper respiratory infections

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Monitor liver function when used with statins.
  • Not for use during pregnancy or nursing.
  • May cause increased liver enzymes when combined with other lipid-lowering drugs.
