What is Glibenclamide?

Glibenclamide (also known as Glyburide) is a sulfonylurea-class oral antidiabetic agent used to manage type 2 diabetes. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, which lowers blood glucose levels. It is typically used in patients who are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and may be used in combination with other oral agents.

Uses of Glibenclamide :-

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Common Side Effects :-

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Weight gain
  • Nausea
  • Skin rash

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Not recommended in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Use caution in elderly or renal-impaired patients.
  • Take with meals to reduce risk of hypoglycemia.
