What is Imipramine hydrochloride?

Imipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant primarily used to treat depression and enuresis (bedwetting) in children. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, thus improving mood and reducing unwanted nocturnal urination. Due to its sedative and anticholinergic properties, its use is often carefully monitored.

Uses of Imipramine hydrochloride :-

  • Major depressive disorder
  • Childhood enuresis
  • Chronic pain

Common Side Effects :-

  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation
  • Drowsiness

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Risk of cardiac toxicity in overdose.
  • Use cautiously in the elderly.
  • Not suitable for patients with glaucoma or seizure disorders.
