What is Itraconazole?

Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal used orally to treat a wide spectrum of fungal infections, including deep tissue and systemic mycoses. It inhibits fungal cytochrome P450, disrupting cell membrane synthesis. It is particularly useful in treating aspergillosis, histoplasmosis, and onychomycosis, and accumulates in keratin-rich tissues for prolonged action.

Uses of Itraconazole :-

  • Systemic fungal infections
  • Fungal nail infections
  • Tinea corporis and pedis

Common Side Effects :-

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Liver enzyme changes

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Monitor liver function during long-term use.
  • Take capsules with food for better absorption.
  • May interact with drugs like statins, anticoagulants, and antiarrhythmics.
