What is Lidocaine Base / Hydrochloride?

Lidocaine, available as a base or hydrochloride salt, is a fast-acting local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic agent. It works by blocking sodium channels in nerve cells, which prevents pain signals from reaching the brain. Lidocaine is widely used in dental procedures, minor surgeries, topical pain relief, and also as an intravenous drug for certain cardiac arrhythmias. It is found in creams, gels, patches, injections, and sprays.

Uses of Lidocaine Base / Hydrochloride :-

  • Local anesthesia for minor surgical or dental procedures
  • Relief from pain, itching, or burning from skin irritations or hemorrhoids (topical)
  • Treatment of ventricular arrhythmias (IV form)

Common Side Effects :-

  • Temporary numbness or tingling
  • Skin irritation at the site of application
  • Dizziness or drowsiness (if absorbed systemically)

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Avoid using on large areas or broken skin unless advised by a doctor.
  • High doses can cause serious side effects like seizures or heart issues.
  • Not recommended in patients with severe heart block (without a pacemaker).
