What is Linezolid?

Linezolid is an oxazolidinone antibiotic used for treating serious gram-positive infections, including drug-resistant strains like MRSA and VRE. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Linezolid is valuable for hospital-acquired infections and is available both orally and intravenously.

Uses of Linezolid :-

  • MRSA infections
  • VRE infections
  • Pneumonia
  • Skin and soft tissue infections

Common Side Effects :-

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Thrombocytopenia

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Monitor blood counts during prolonged use.
  • May interact with serotonergic drugs.
  • Avoid prolonged use to reduce risk of resistance.
