What is Nalidixic Acid?

Nalidixic Acid is a synthetic quinolone antibiotic primarily used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections. It inhibits DNA gyrase, leading to impaired bacterial replication. Though largely replaced by newer antibiotics, it is still used in pediatric urinary infections in some settings.

Uses of Nalidixic Acid :-

  • Urinary tract infections

Common Side Effects :-

  • Rash
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Headache

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Not recommended for long-term use.
  • Avoid in infants under 3 months.
  • Use cautiously in those with seizure disorders.
