What is Nifedipine?

Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes the muscles of the heart and blood vessels. It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure and angina. It acts by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced workload on the heart.

Uses of Nifedipine :-

  • High blood pressure
  • Chronic stable angina
  • Raynaud's phenomenon

Common Side Effects :-

  • Swelling in legs/ankles
  • Flushing
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Avoid sudden discontinuation.
  • Extended-release tablets should not be chewed.
  • Use with caution in liver impairment.
