What is Olanzapine?

Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It alters the activity of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin in the brain, helping reduce psychotic symptoms and mood swings. It is also used in combination with antidepressants for treatment-resistant depression.

Uses of Olanzapine :-

  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Adjunct in depression

Common Side Effects :-

  • Weight gain
  • Increased appetite
  • Sedation

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Monitor blood sugar and cholesterol.
  • Use cautiously in patients with a history of seizures.
  • Avoid alcohol due to sedation risk.
