What is Terbinafine Hydrochloride?

Terbinafine is an allylamine antifungal that works by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, an enzyme involved in fungal cell membrane synthesis. It is highly effective against dermatophytes and is used both topically and orally. It accumulates in skin, hair, and nails, making it ideal for treating nail and scalp fungal infections.

Uses of Terbinafine Hydrochloride :-

  • Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis)
  • Athlete's foot, ringworm, jock itch
  • Scalp infections (tinea capitis)

Common Side Effects :-

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort (oral)
  • Rash, itching (topical)
  • Liver enzyme elevation

Precautions & Warnings :-

  • Regular liver monitoring for oral therapy.
  • Avoid in chronic liver disease.
  • Long duration needed for nail infections.
